How is a sailboat built? How can energy be produced without fossil fuels? What kind of business can be developed to help sustainability and promote “green”? How do we write testimony for the state legislature to promote our side of an issue relating to immigration? Where does ocean debris go? How can we use our recycled paper and food leftovers to create fertilizer for our plants? How can we grow vegetables in a limited space?
These are some of the questions pursued by students at the Academy of the Pacific as they learn the national content standards for physics, sociology, global issues, environmental science, marine science, and other subjects while learning 21st Century skills of research, inquiry, communication, presentation, leadership, and teamwork.
Project Based Learning is one of the instructional approaches used at the Academy of the Pacific to engage student interest and motivation while promoting in depth learning.
Students work on building a fully sustainable city using Leed certification specs.
